Triangle Greenways Council Board Meeting Minutes |
March 2004 The Board of directors of Triangle Greenways Council met for its regular monthly meeting in the Board Room of The Healing Place on March 22, 2004. Bill Bussey presided. Other Board members present were Leslie Kennedy, Barb Oslund, Don Belk, Allen de Hart, and Bill Flournoy. Also attending were William Breazeale and Larkin Kirkman. The minutes for the last meeting were approved. The secretary made a request for corrections to the preliminary roster of Board members. The Treasurer’s report, distributed by e-mail, showed a balance of $20, 172.21. It was reported that the treasurer had put some of the funds into an interest-bearing checking account. Bill Flournoy reported he is setting up a meeting with the Triangle Community Foundation. William Breazeale is aware of another organization which is managing several non-profits for free. He was asked to make contact with it. The Treasurer’s Report was approved. William Breazeale was elected to the Board to fill a vacant position with a term ending on December 31, 2005. William said it would be an honor and a privilege to serve on the Board. Committee Reports: Land Trust: Bill Flournoy reported that he had written Representatives Reeves, Miner, and Weiss, Co-Chairpersons of the Dorothea Dix Property Study Commission. He gave to them a copy of the report, “Walnut Creek and Rocky Branch Greenway Loop: Opportunity, Vision, Steps to Reality,” which was done several years ago by the Council working with the NCSU College of Design Department of Landscape Architecture. The study addressed issues related to Dix and the area surrounding it. Bill reported also that the Memorandum of Agreement between the Conservation Trust for North Carolina and Triangle Greenways Council has been signed and is effective until October 21, 2006. Included in this agreement is the potential of reimbursement for a digital camera with required hardware and software for computer integration and sharing of a GPS unit in partnership with the Eno River Association. This agreement make us now eligible to participate in the State’s program. Bill reported the Committee is meeting and has several projects, where action by owners is needed. There was discussion of the effectiveness of other organization in raising funds and building an endowment. There was discussion of the NC Center of Non-Profits, and Earth Shares of NC. Barb has sent an e-mail request to all for completion of the self-evaluation for discussion with Chuck Roe. Response to this has been poor. The Board members are requested again to give attention to this and get the evaluations to Chuck Roe. These matters will be discussed at the April Board meeting (a meeting that Barb must miss). Allen raised an issue related to a land trust in Franklin County and was referred to the Conservation Trust for NC (ccnc.org.). Membership Committee: There was no report from the Membership Committee. The secretary reported that he had received notice from Nicole Marschhauser, Organizer of the North Carolina Conservation Network, that the Council is an affiliate organization of the Network and that our leaders are eligible to receive some of the e-mail services provided by the Network. The secretary is to provide this information about a Daily News Digest, Weekly Alert, and Legislative Update to Board members. The secretary reported also that he had received information about the Land Trust Alliance Rally 2004, of the National Land Conservation Conference.
